Fluxbox: Window Manager of the Year 2004-01-18 18:05:16
Looks like Fluxbox has earned the Window Manager of the Year award over at LinuxQuestions.org. We need the Golden Shell Awards back... I can still remember when they were done in 2001, seems like only yesterday.

In more Fluxbox news though, a new Development Release was done on the 15th, the major reason was to fix a memory leak in the previous release. There are some other changes there though, you can find out all about it here

Not much for writing news today, sorry :(

ironhead Do we really want to resurrect the war that was the 'Golden Shell Awards'? :)
snkmchnb i missed out :(
qwilk Ahh... those were the days! Flames like never seen before! ;D (snkmchnb: link)
qwilk Sorry, wrong link, it should've been link
qwilk ROFL, guess which shell is being referred to in that news post? A hint: -rtfm! =]
gv I'm laughing so much, my sides hurt...
Tres`ni I think a more "People Choice" Golden Shell Awards would be alright. And despite the flames that ensued, I think overall the judging was (semi)fair
ironhead At the risk of resurrecting the flame war.... OTS was the best innovation in the shell community in 2001? I think I better just lay this one to rest.... ;)
qwilk Actually, 2001 - link - was a pretty slow year, in terms of inventions that had any serious impact on a *large* number of shell-using people. And as opposed to the other nominees, the OTS is still with us, so it could be argued that we were right when declaring it the winner. Then again, there were probably a number of great inventions that year that only reached a small number of people, but that wasn't what the award was about at the time. Anyway... stop beating the dead cow dammit!!! ;P
qwilk Thanks Tres`ni :) Regarding a "People's choice" version of the GSA, we actually thought about that, but the idea was dropped for two reasons. First, it would have required extra work on our behalf to set up the poll, compile the results etc (and please note their was a lot of website hacking going on at the time). Second, how unbiased can a "people" consisting to 95% (guesstimate) of LiteStep users be any more "unbiased" than three shell-devoted webmasters could? (cf. the choice of the OTS as innovation - it was something that had an impact on those 95% of the users out there, and as such it was important to a lot of people even though it can be argued that the technical merits of the OTS weren't as great as other innovations that year). Oh well, as Chris said I'd better lay this one to rest... =]
qwilk their -> there, crappy english (sorry, it's 3AM here and I have a concussion)
Tres`ni Sorry to hear about the concussion, hope everything is alright and ya feel well. I guess the Shell Awards is a bad idea :-P
